I changed the SS Nazi into a Ghost. He is stronger, invisible, can walk through walls, and sounds like a combination of a former human and the player. Ghosts are the souls of failed heroes like you, the player ;). On occassion they even float a bit. Please note that jumping is not only encouraged but REQUIRED to get through some parts of the level!
