Much like last time, everyone made an individual prompt, and then made a map for someone else's, and at the end everyone unboxed their map. Although it faced a fair amount of delays for a number of reasons, eventually we got 52 maps of a rich variety. To quote Meowgi from last time, map styles range from "Relaxing Exploration" to "Chill slaughter" to "the utterly deranged and/or puzzles that make you utterly deranged". Merry Christmas! I guess? Additional Credits to : stephyesterday for the custom INTERPIC Petyan for the custom invuln colormap, Fumingbow639067 for some other colormap edits Uses textures from 32in24-15_tex_v2, OTEX 1.1, magnolia, jumpwad, sunder, stardate 20x7, tree sprites from Ukiro (probably more? idk copied from PPSS1 credit I'll ask raven later) Uses sprites from supercharge_v2.9, xmaschill, Realm667? Fine with a bit of slaughter. Cute puzzles that don't take a century of spreadsheets and screenshots to solve. Enjoys Plutonia more than I should. Favorite (doom) music/midis: Anything by Stuart Rynn, Tristan Clark, James Paddock, although anything is generally fine. I'm not really a picky person with music so long as the drums aren't giving me a headache. Favorite color(s): Blue, Purple, Hot Pink Map Notes: Merry Christmas chief! Apologies for the delay. I bet there's also a butt ton of problems, but you can definitely exit the map from the beginning! There's definitely room for detailing to be done, and I know how much you enjoy detailing so I left that as a present I guess! MAP03 : Kenapsis Author : NiGHTS108 + Phoenyx Gift for : Napsalm Music : Prototype (Extended) by James Paddock and Stuart Rynn Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes/enemies: Techbase (btsx1, tetanus, anagnorisis, eviternity in general, aaliens, early valiant) Incidental combat appreciated Small combat puzzles rather than large slaughter Exploration of combat area prior to combat starting a big plus No "haha screw you" anti-playerness Reward with weapons Not an abundance of ammo, but also not starvation non-linear key retrieval classic style "find the shoot switch" secrets tough fights but not slaughter that becomes a slog to clean up Fodder horde rocketting akolai style puzzles Minimal bfg usage, 2 shots and clean up rather than slaughter. Enemy preference: Knight / Caco / Arachnotron / Pinky / Meaningful custom enemies / Revenant > Cyber / Hitscanners / Imp / Baron / Vile > Mastermind / Mancubus > PE / Souls / Meme enemies clean areas for movement. High detail, bouncy, obnoxious linedef work should be kept away from areas of player movement Platforming can get in the bin, platforming fighting even more so Favorite (doom) music/midis: Anything reminiscent of c64 chiptune, going down the fast way, prog metal Favorite color: Dark Blue / Silver / Black Map Notes: [NiGHTS108] Hiiiiiii happy late birthday! Sorry even *this* map took a little while, probably should've just LOCKED TF IN and done it myself :Clueless: but hey we're here, I hope you enjoy! I know you like to UV-Speed, so if you can beat the map in less than 1:30, there may be a little secret teleporter at the end. Say if there's anything in the map you'd like changing at all. Also Tony wanted credit for the name who thought of it while I played Anapsnorisis. Thanks Tony! MAP04 : Chartreuse Author : Phoenyx Gift for : Roadworx Music : ...And So I Carry On by David Shaw Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes: i adore mid-90s maps, especially those found in mm2, obituary, and polygon base. non-linear maps with lots of exploration and a dungeon crawler feel to them are wonderful. when they have unique puzzle-like secrets and lots of little optional areas, that makes them even better. in terms of combat, chaotic, nonstop fighting like you see in plutonia 2 or going down where it has lots of fodder in addition to the heavies is preferred, though downtime for exploration is also necessary; when it comes to arena setpiece stuff, alien vendetta and kama sutra style slaughter. layouts that criss-cross and change a lot in regards to their geometry while also letting monsters roam around so they can follow you around and sneak up behind you are best. limited custom texture usage, a bit of thematic inconsistency, a techbase aesthetic, and a fairly dark atmosphere with high-contrast lighting for visuals. tight, but not too tight in terms of resource availability. maps that demonstrate my tastes well: - MM2 MAP15 and 16 - PL2 MAP09 - Obituary MAP06 and 09 - AV MAP13 and 18 Favorite music: 90s midis. mark klem, david shaw, jeremy doyle, and bob reganess Favorite colors: green and blue. compblu and tekgren is very much appreciated :3 Map Notes: Hiiiiii!! This is my gift to you! Really sorry it's so late, I was hoping to get this done a week ago but Christmas and getting the soundtrack for Kvo's WAD done took up a lot of my time, and then I had a fibromyalgia flare-up. This is basically one big love letter to Alien Vendetta and I do hope you enjoy it! It's a pretty big map, quite a lot of secrets and also packed with action too! May take you at least half an hour in-game time on a first playthrough. I tried my best to include as much as I could from your prompts. I did ultimately completely fail at some of the points listed but I at least tried to make the map have room for exploration and be non-linear. I hope you enjoy the map despite its shortcomings in delivering everything you wanted. Absolutely no rush to play this, but whenever you do, let me know when you're going to play it and if you're going to stream it and if so, I'll try and come watch if I am awake. Merry belated Christmas and a Happy New Year! <3 MAP05 : Beyond the flame of the Phoenyx Author : Chuma Gift for : Phoenyx Music : "Contempt (I Hate You)" by Varis Alpha Prompt : Favourite genres/tropes: Adventure maps, lots of opportunities for exploring and finding secrets. Also love slaughter too! Favourite music/MIDIs: rd - Eye of the Storm (Cyberdreams MIDI Pack) Tristan Clark - The Sea of Mystery (Breathless) msx2plus - UP (GOODWAD - 27) Ribbiks - oct17_re.mid (Jumpwad - 07) AD_79 - Fear Not the Withering of Our World (1000 Lines 3 - 29) Varis Alpha - Contempt [I Hate You] (TNT: Revilution - Map 06) Favourite colours: I love red, but I do also love purple and blue too! Further inspiration, here's some of my own stuff: Whisper of the Heart - https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/v-z/whisper B-Sides - https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/a-c/bsides Map Notes: This map is a gift from me to my best friend Phoenyx in secret santa mapping dynamic. Most of the map was based on her prompt. The red key "puzzle" was changed because it was counter intuitive at first. [SPOILER] 3...2...1. --------- --------- --------- --------- The speedrunning secret was intended because i was tired of the old version of the red key puzzle so i left it there intentionally. Actually it was changed again (17/12/2024) I reduced the delay and put it in front so the elevator can be visualized. Please report me any bug. MAP06 : Dream Warrior Author : paymentplan Gift for : Chuma Music : Dream Warriors by Dokeen Prompt : Favourite genres/tropes: Action maps, I'd say similar to Scythe 2 and Speed of Doom, a wad or a map that gives you a play but doesn't give you impossible level of challenges... i think as a request based on these wads would be that the mapper creates a cool place and be creative with Geo and architecture, doesn't have to be expert or amazing and the map can be a power trip but make a cool place :3. Favorite music/MIDIs: Anything that is a metal band music made into a midi, anything that works in that regard: Scythe 2 Map 01 : Temple of Love - Sisters of mercy is my favorite. Favorite colors : Black and gray, and any color that can make the map aesthetic... techy like, you can use neon type of textures. Map Notes: Chuma! Always warms my heart to see your upbeat messages, so I wanted to make a fun map that would bring a smile to the face of all who played it. I started off wanting to make a winter version of Cliffside Siege from Speed of Doom, but got lost along the way and ended up with this instead. Things really came together for me when I had the idea of the three colored lifts in the central area. Let me know what you think! Happy holidays and merry christmas from your pal paymentplan! :D MAP07 : Powerwild Author : NecrumWarrior Gift for : paymentplan Music : Death Mask by Lippeth Prompt : Moderately difficult rocket launcher slaughter, asymmetry, turret cybers, arena fights (especially when they're on platforms rather than an enclosed area), optional cooked secret fights, light platforming. Favorite music/midis: I like moodier stuff like e1m3, ev14 heretic e1m1, and stuff that you wouldn't associate with Doom, like Eviternity map15. Favorite colors: Green, orange, blue, gray, dark brown. Not necessarily all at once, I prefer a more focused palette, but those are my favorites Map Notes: None MAP08 : 4nwar Author : bsharp Gift for : NecrumWarrior Music : Alien Forest by stewboy Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes/enemies: Monster closet traps and slaughter segments. Also prefer snappy maps that don't overstay their welcome. Less hitscanners, more REVENANTS! Most important is a touch of silliness. Favorite (doom) music/midis: Stewboy and the like is my jam. Favorite color(s): Plutonia. Map Notes: merry christmas! / happy holidays! i've tried to squeeze as much i could out of the prompt, though i hope you enjoyed Plutonia's greener levels ^^; should ideally be a short Saturday night experience. no difficulty balancing as of right now, but i might adjust it once i get back to my laptop. hope you enjoy this little temple thing i put together ^_^ MAP09 : Cry Havoc Author : D0M0 Gift for : bsharp Music : "Tempest" by Progbass92 Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes: - projectile hell (i dislike hitscanners a little bit) - completely abstract texture usage, as colors instead of materials - i like small thoughtful encounters. i also like av sightlines-based gameplay - room to run around, horde control - completely empty dark corners w/ no gp relevance; excess - carpet Favorite (doom) music/midis: dont care much. something quiet/relaxed or something, between jazzy and zzzvy . ambience. i like benjamin lewis of midikar dot com. i also enjoy modarchive Favorite color: magenta (any nice color palette makes my eyes happy) Map Notes: I'm really sorry for the delay for this map, I have been dealing with several personal things. I'm also going to say that this map, it kinda sucks. I was hoping to try and capture most if not all your prompts. On pen and paper it worked smoothly; whereas with reality, it sorta just fell apart. Regardless I hope you enjoy the map. lmk if you wanna stream this on VC and we can maybe arrange a time, as well as any issues you have with the map. Otherwise, a demo recording would be fine. Just to warn you, I playtested this map previously and it's pretty cooked. MAP10 : A Hidden Core Deep Inside Author : NuruTheDoomer Gift for : D0M0 Music : "Inside" by Neurometry / A MIDI rendition of "Endless Forest" by Stratovarius, sequenced by Tristan Clark / "Harvest" by Neurometry / "The Godhood Suite (III. Terra Incognita)" by James Paddock Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes/enemies: Atmospheric Maps (Outerspace, Caves, The Void, etcetera.); Slightly starved on ammo; Involves non-linear key hunting to progress through the map; Strategically placed monsters; big finale fight Favorite (doom) music/midis: Anything ambient, either calm or eerie. Depends on the setting. Favorite color: I’ll choose Orange for this one. Map Notes: Sorry if this map is kinda bad... I had a bad fever earlier in the month (it's heavy-raining season around this time of the year here), so yea... Didn't get to utilize the time given fully... The combat and level design are also kinda mehhh because of it, but I've tried my best. Hope you would still like it though Also I will not be available for vc at the moment, so feel free to record a fda demo (or a video) and give some (honest) feedback (especially about the combat side of the map) MAP11 : Overgrown Instinct Author : RedBoule Gift for : NuruTheDoomer Music : Dark Carnival by Daniel Bernstein and Jay Wilson / Rigor Mormist by Laura Shigihara Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes: Chill slaughter that takes place in a cave at night that contains one giant central arena in the middle. The enemies teleports into the central arena in "waves" that gets harder every wave with the "final wave(s)" being (obv) the hardest. Weapon choice is chaingun at the beginning, then plasma gun, then bfg as the waves gets harder Favorite midis: Would love to see the use of the Rigor Mormist track from PvZ within the central arena, with the start of the "final wave(s)" of the map synced with the start of the "Wave/Horde" part of the midi (the one with the extra percussions).. For the part before the arena maaaybe use sonny666's Norwich Lane midi or any good spooky midi Favorite colors: Green and yellow, but more towards green Map Notes: There you go, sorry if it took so long this map was quite ambitious and I kinda hated working on this. I'm really not sure you'll like it as the start of the map isn't "chill slaughter" at all it's just "chill" lol. MAP12 : Drown With The Daisies Author : OverflowingMocha Gift for : RedBoule Music : Animus by Psyrus Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes/enemies: ranked by preference: 1) big interconnected adventure maps / combat puzzle / lots of ammo 2) macro slaughter (see the beginning fights of POOGERS map 28) / not too grindy / well thought out -monster variety I want something challenging but not totally bullshit. Can be a mix of anything cited above. (btw don't make a poog28 map pls) Favorite (doom) music/midis: chill electro music / dnb / jungle / atmospheric / ambient No midis. Favorite color(s): can be anything but bonus points if you use complementary colors :) Map Notes: Merry christmas boule!!!!!!! I didn't have a lot of fun making this, but it turned out pretty good in the end i think! I am dogshit at making slaughter, so I hope you like it..!!!! MAP13 : The Moth Fortress Author : AdamTheSlave Gift for : OverflowingMocha Music : UnreaL ][ / PM by Purple Motion Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes/enemies: i like anything!! however my favorite style of map is an oppressive/dark map with drastic light changes and difficult but well calibrated combat, bonus points if ammo starvation!! when it comes to themes, i really love caves... cities too, that maybe sorta give a liminal feel to them? don't need to stick to that definition tho,,, i jus really like abstract places that try to look like real ones, but have that blocky doomy feel to them :3 sum exampls that can kinda show what i mean: Roger Ritenour's works, such as Earth or Pleiades a lot of Cacodemon187's stuff Vigor MAP05/MAP10 Liminal Doom 2 MAP05 Some A.L.T maps Road To Hades MAP22 Favorite music/midis: I enjoy more laid-back midis, folks like Dial-Up For Murder or Psyrus have some real good stuf that i love!! i also really like mods but i don't know of many,,, my main genre outside of doom would all go under the umbrella of punk,,, hardcore, thrash, post-hardcore or emo, that kinda stuf. bonus points if the map is named after any song from a band caus im a sucker 4 those :3 some bands as examples of stuf i like if u wanna like, do more research: Nymb Shellac White Cross Navigator Rid of Me Fugazi Gauze Favorite colors: Lavender and yellow!! i also really like magenta,,, however i also really like just messy or fucked up looking palettes!! they're fun!! uwu Map Notes: Merry Christmas Mocha! So I was going for an underground city, with a hidden cave system leading to a portal to the place. I couldn’t find any midis for the Chicago based bands you listed but since you said you liked tracker modules, I picked the most popular tracker mod on the mod archive, then edited it in milky tracker so it would loop better. MAP14 : AtS's Punch-Out!!! Author : A.o.D. Gift for : AdamTheSlave Music : "Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!" Round start music, "WII Punch-Out!!" theme music Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes/enemies: Detailed cities, small-medium fights, monster count below 500, doom cute, big finales, tyson maps, Favorite (doom) music/midis: C64/Amiga Modules, 16 bit era Midi's (snes/sfc/genesis/md), Jean Michael Jarre midi's like Equinox part 6, Oxygene Part 4, etc. Favorite Color(s): I don't have one. Use whatever colors you think would look best for the scene. Map Notes: Merr crims. I ain't rich, so I didn't get you a city map. MAP15 : Frostbite Author : Djoga Gift for : A.o.D. Music : "Chant" by Lee Jackson, "Ending Title" from Blade Runner by Vangelis Prompt : Favorite genre/trope/enemies: It's hard for me to define a favorite, but my favorite Iwad/Pwad maps are Hunted and Rocket Zone II. I don't care for grindy mega slaughter, but secret hunting, cool visuals, brutal ambushes are all my bag. Favorite music: Music that matches the pace and tone of the map. Super chill midis when I'm fighting for my life don't do it for me. The same goes for speed metal in maps with a lot of down time. Favorite Color: Surprise me, but I do love lighting effects and striking use of sector lighting. Extra request: If you could somehow work in the idea of "His Heart Grew Three Sizes That Day" into the map, that would be a very merry Christmas for me. Feel free to interpret that how you like. Map Notes: Hello Merry (late) Christmas and Happy New Year! I tried to include everything from the prompt, and I hope my interpretation of the idea matches yours MAP16 : That One Time You Forgot The Library Card Author : Petyan Gift for : Djoga Music : "Intermission" by Tom Mustaine Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes/enemies: Tyson at the start of the map. Blasting through enemies while you are only given the rocket launcher and/or the BFG (Evit1 MAP26). Occassional slaughter that doesn't drag for too long if it's in the middle, doesn't matter if it's at the finale (eater29's Wormfood but without overly claustrophobic rooms, final fights of Evit1 MAP25 and Evit2 MAP26/36, secret crusher fight in Evit2 MAP15). Challenges like in Evit2 MAP26. Maps made with EITHER otex OR stock textures. No clashing texture packs. Libraries with a mix of marble and metalwood textures. Caves with stalagmites. Outside areas with all kinds of rock textures and trees. Hell Nobles, Revenants and Hitscanners. Chaingunners and Revenants are NEVER put together. When Archies are summoned they are surrounded by Spectres or Hell Nobles. Favorite (doom) music/midis: IWAD-style midis with choir or guitars that either give you anemoia or adrenaline rush when shit gets serious, like Perdition's Gate "Rise From The Ashes" and "Maximum Horsepower" (the rest of its soundtrack also works). Midi renditions of Blut Aus Nord Epitome XIV and Leprous Slave or something similar. Non-midis can be OGGs from Megami Tensei II for NES, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark and Waxworks for Amiga, Samurai Ghost for PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16. Favorite color: Marble green, wood brown and sp_rock white if maps are set on Earth, red and black if set in Hell. White, green and yellow if set in Heaven. Map Notes: hi merry christmas and hope you enjoy this map!! MAP17 : Factory Author : Ravendesk Gift for : Petyan Music : lowers in the abyss by basehead & hunz halogen III by blue orian "Привет с большого бодуна" by Дюна Prompt : Favourite genres/tropes/enemies: Abundance of ammo and meleeing. I like punching and don't usually enjoy ammo starvation. Other than that i'm fine with whatever the map has to offer (would it be exploration, slaughter, platforming etc etc). Check out my stuff if it helps - https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Petyan Favorite (doom) music/midis: Something that hasn't really been used in doom levels much, but i prefer calmer midis/mods. Favorite color: Grey and yellow, but they look like shit together, so i'm fine with whatever color since they all have a use (would be cool to see some color theory usage) Map Notes: hi hi hello hi hi hi hi hi hello hi merry christmas, happy new year, incredible easter!! MAP18 : Even Kings Bow Author : General Roasterocck Gift for : Ravendesk Music : Arkiev_r - Zachary Stephens Prompt : So you've made it this far... Too bad you won't make it much further. I do not pay you to ask questions. All you need to know is a new dawn is breaking. A hundred will give their lives so that just one may live. I am expediting that change. There's no room for half measures. In less than five minutes, we will reach the optimal altitude for missile deployment. Ensure complete global saturation. Map Notes: Featuring: - No questions asked (I didn't ask) - Dawn breaking (The map ending in the light of a new day) - One hundred giving their lives (Each switch fight has a hundred zombiemen) - The optimal altitude (Jesus the lift is fucked) - Global saturation achieved (The world is cold) MAP19 : Granular Hymn Author : stephyesterday Gift for : General Roasterock Music : COLONEL by Zan-Zan-Zawa-Veia Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes/enemies: Binaural, brain bending, BFG, shotgunners are a big plus Favorite (doom) music/midis: Zan-zan-zawa-veia, jazzy or anything that can send you on a voyage Favorite color: As close to orange as the palette can get Map Notes: MERRY CHRISTMAS HAPPY NEW YEAR HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROASTERROCK (SORRY FOR MISSING THAT) :spongebob: :spongebob: :wavey: :spongebob: i made a little place for you. this really had no business taking this long to come out but i am the world's slowest mapper, working on this burned me the hell out and the combat didn't really turn out as good as i wanted but you don't wanna hear about that shit!! failed to really make it "brain bending" but hope you enjoy this regardless. :xddLove: MAP20 : Heartbeat Of The Trees Author : Rayziik Gift for : stephyesterday Music : "residue" by zzzv/ Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes: Cramped rocket launcher combat, microslaughter, sector trees, lunchlunch/10x10-style lock-ins, gimmicky platforming, sector trees, revenants and cacodemons and archviles, animated liquid flats/falls, sector trees, brutalist macro-architecture, concrete and metal Favorite (doom) music/midis: Zan-zan-zawa-veia, CheeseyMozarella, msx2plus, gabber/hardcore if you wanna get into mods/oggs, midi covers of early 2000s pop songs, steely dan Favorite color(s): Fucshia/dark pink, mint green/seafoam, heavy contrast in general Map Notes: /// EPISODE II: NAUGHTY /// MAP21 : Hell's a'Raisin Author : Lonely Gift for : Cynder_Thief Music : Lemmings - Menacing Sequenced by D. Syverson Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes: BFG slaughter, intense duck and cover urban-combat style gameplay, tight rocket launcher combat, rev hallways. I despise obscure progression. Favorite wads are Sunder, Struggle, Sunlust, and Augur Zenith. Favorite map is Sunder 32. Favorite midis: My maps invariably use songs I really like. Favorite midis are probably the Valiant final boss midi, Jailbreak from Stuboy, and Hyperdrive from Jimmy. Favorite colors: teal and coral. Map Notes: A Short and compact map, but with straight forward adrenaline gameplay with primarily the rocket launcher and knowing how you like cooked fights I did my best to provide! hopefully it's to your taste, if not hopefully I can fix it so it is! Super fun little mapping event and happy I joined, double happy I got to make a map for a chill dude like Cynder! MAP22 : Fight For The Land of Unicorns Author : dashie + Phoenyx Gift for : Lonely Music : Gloryhammer - Hootsforce Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes: Slaughter/arenas, I have a high tolerance for grindy if done interestingly, love revs, cacos, HKs and cybers the most, but honestly like all the monsters outside of hitscan Favorite (doom) music/midis: I generally like rock-esque MIDIs, but honestly this is a FFA Favorite color(s): black, red, metalic and earthy colours Map Notes: [dashie] a silly little slaughtergrind for a silly old lonely couldnt finish it fully on my own because reasons and hahaha, so asked phonex to help me out with fights. even tho this is late, i hope you will like it <3 MAP23 : crystalline fortress Author : synami Gift for : dashie Music : something i came up with on the spot Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes: some not-too-gringy slaughter, silly arena fights. i dont care much about monsters, make what you like just dont torture me. most important part for me is the architecture and dreamy/moody atmosphere. i love void with natural rocky landscapes and interesting structures (see my maps, icgya, 10x10, 1x1, breathless, both stardates). lots of liquids and rocky textures also appreciated. throw in some allcolor textures if you will, icgya is forever in my heart. make me feel something lol Favorite (doom) music/midis: i love dreamy, atmospheric, moody midis (ribbik, rd or whatever else you find. i dont listen to midis as much off-doom anymore). same with MODs, bonus points if it has some voice sample in it. with mods id also add some breakcore, gabber, acid Favorite color(s): black, purple Map Notes: this map is like epic women (short and curvy!) tried to squeeze in atmospheric prompts, hopefully this shows through the music :33 kind of inspired from your early jf4 map MAP24 : funtree Author : WASDBee Gift for : synami Music : snowsong by me it was me i did it and i'll do it again Prompt : favorite genres/tropes/enemies: slotter which isn't 100 percent cbt, chill bfg spam, even some fucking room to move metalza flyers speedmaps : ) favorite (doom) music: late 90s/early-mid 00s trance / freeform hardcore / gabber (think like '98-'02 push, enigma state, signum, '98-'00 paul van dyk, nu energy collective from the late 2000s / early 2010s) favorite colours: red/orange/green/blue Map Notes: happy. fucking easter! here's my speedmap I made it in 30 seconds and/or several weeks maybe the music could probably be mixed better but also it isn't Idk how to post any more screenshots wirthout showing the whole map sorry it's a very lomg map because I got carried away making shapes :sob: I'm hope you have an awesome year :Like: MAP25 : Avalanche Frontier Author : eater29 Gift for : WASDBee Music : waterbound.mid by Korp Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes/enemies: Slaughter, revenant hallways, rocketing imps. (Thank you for saving me typing this meowgi). Also Hive Mothers. I like big adventure maps with 30k enemies or small contemplative puzzle map art pieces or tyson maps or a bunch of stuff idk. I have a fairly medium-lowish tolerance for grind, I love infighting, and I usually hate excessive use of HOM's and/or STARTAN (sorry not sorry). I like racing maps/sections too, but not super cooked because I'm not that good at sr50/platforming yet. Difficulty settings or at least stuff being moderately cooked at most is always appreciated. Favorite (doom) music/midis: Knightrider of Doom style stuff, long proggy metal stuff, drum and bass, speedcore, chill ambient stuff that has melody, classical/symphonic stuff, jazzy stuff, and especially anything that combines more than one of these. Also if it sounds like it came from a final fantasy game I'll probably love it. Favorite color(s): Black and any other bright colour (especially red/ yellow/white/green), purple, high contrast mixed with softer more natural textures and shades, purple, dark blue, and purple Map Notes: a rather large, semi-linear map with a lot of popcorn slaughter and enemy-heavy+rocket launcher combat. Unfortunately there are no hive mothers. I’m hoping that UV isn’t too cooked, though difficulty settings are there in case you’re struggling a little. coop spawns and monsters are there but i have no guarantee that it’s balanced and not broken. I’m away from home for the rest of the month, but i’ve tried to fix whatever i could catch before I left. There are a couple visual bugs i spotted in software, so I’ll only be able to fix those and whatever else is found when I come back in January. Sorry if there’s anything game-breaking! MAP26 : Cold Fusion Author : suzerduzer Gift for : eater29 Music : Tristan Clark - Downpour Prompt : Favourite genres/tropes: Somewhat difficult* slaughter set-pieces set in exploration-heavy layouts. Timed multi-wave fights. I enjoy both strategic setups and chaotic BFG-spam moshpits. I also love stairbuilder spam. I am a huge sucker for vast spaces and natural areas mixed with artificial structures. For reference, the upper limit to what I'm comfortable with difficulty-wise would be late Sunlust/Fractured Worlds/some of Abandon. Favourite music: Anything laid-back or "Atmospheric." As long as I can tune it out while I'm dying over and over it's fine by me. Favourite colours: Teal or purple? I don't really have a favourite colour as long as the they mix well together. Map Notes: A nuclear power plant embedded into a snowy mountaintop. Somewhat non-linear progression mixed with semi-difficult slaughter set ups. I tried to make something based on Fractured Worlds' design and atmosphere. I would have liked to actually do more outside of the main compound but I would also like to finish this before the holidays lol. MAP27 : Abendregen Author : brendondle Gift for : suzerduzer Music : Pathfinder by Psyrus Prompt : Favorite genres / tropes / enemies: My favorite style of maps are those with medieval / fantasy themes. I prefer a focus on atmosphere and environmental storytelling over difficult combat setpieces, although I enjoy a decent challenge. I like when maps have puzzle solving in them (think dobu gabu maru). I can't stand large, grindy maps. Favorite Doom music / midis: RPG OSTs, quiet or creepy ambience. I do not enjoy metal music. Favorite color(s): Black and blue, dark brown. Map Notes: MAP28 : Windchill Cove Author : Hebonky Gift for : brendondle Music : DeeP SleeP by Hebonky Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes: maps with a cool setting, maps with a sense of adventure, maps centered around themes (im a sucker for seasonal maps), unique gimmicks, cryptic secrets (typically with secret fights), reuse of space, let your creativity go wild Favorite (doom) music/midis: been listening to a lot of Psyrus and Tristan Clark midis lately since im a basic bitch Favorite color: idc :trollrainbow: Map Notes: :xdd53153120598203958230958259038: Merry Christler Berry Chitin MAP29 : Void of Despair Author : Crusador560 Gift for : Hebonky Music : Spirals pt. 2 Human by RedDeath9, The Final Judgment by Tristan Clark Prompt : Favorite Genres/tropes: Lean ammo counts, platforming, darkness, precision, puzzles, pin drop ambushes, viles, revs, barons and pain elementals, extreme non orthoganality, easy slaughter, hard core slaughter, scuffed ass progression, scuffed ass secrets, over kill light sequences. Extreme ceiling heights. Favorite Music: Jazz Fusion, progressive metal, Heavy Ambiance Favorite Color: Orange and green Map Notes: HAPPY VALENTINES DAY AND MERRY CHRISTMAS HEBONKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! I'm sorry for delay but I hope you'll like the map, it's a bit tough and mostly balanced around my skill level I'd say. All the fights have been mostly nerfed in the very last test and are balanced pretty good I think. MAP30 : Red Light Green Light Author : Valhen_Saipiam Gift for : Crusador560 Music : Chaos Theory by Xaser, Happy H. Christmas by DRAX Prompt : Favourite genres/tropes/: Microslaughter combined with platforming at the same time, cramped space RL + Plasma combat, 2-shotting cybers in small areas, cyber invis dodging, big vile hordes combined with revs, dodging cyber rockets infront of caco corpses, ssging cybers in tight places, brown rock textures, metal and wood. I also enjoy atmospheric maps, shitpost/memey maps, city maps, void maps. I don't mind any monster. I like challenging maps but not too cooked because I suck ass at this game :xddx: Favorite music: Tracker music is my jam, I like fast paced tracks but I don't mind any type of music so feel free to just go random pick on modarchive and choose what you like :D Favorite colors:Red/Purple/Blue, but feel free to use other colors :) Map Notes: Merry xmas. I hope this isn't too cooked (and that you are ok with me ~~getting inspired by~~ stealing some things from your maps). :^) I tried to go for as many themes as I could from your prompt, though fast-paced tracker music doesn't really suit this map, but I think what I found works well enough. I haven't played through the map with the last few changes I made, hope I didn't break anything. I'll retest tonight from start to finish. Super happy with this map, it's out of my comfort zone, I learned a lot of mapping tricks while making it and I think it turned out great, might need a bit of balancing tho since I tested it a lot, but only by myself, hopefully you will find this to be an absolute average tony W man! MAP35 : Smelly Fruitcake Author : Cynder_Thief Gift for : tonytheparrot Music : WIld McArthur by Lizard King Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes: Extreme slaughter, HR inspired maps (also think of wads like SOD, KS or AV for example), BFG spam, cyber 2-shotting, lots of Health and ammo (don't hesitate to add an infinite BFG), skeleton spam Favorite (doom) music/midis: classic megawad or video game OSTs, goofy renditions of popular songs, mod/ogg files, ear-blasting Degrassi-style tracks Favorite color: I honestly don't care, you can go wild or just make it full startan, be my guest! Please enjoy! <3 /// EPISODE III: FREAKY /// MAP36 : Have You Seen Hungry Toads? Author : ivymagnapinna Gift for : raddicted Music : "remnants" from FF tactics Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes/enemies: ammo starvation, abstract gameplay, avant-garde concepts, low enemy count, those secrets with like one health bonus in them, cryptic secrets, very angular "nature" (take a look at something like the caves in 'have you seen hungry wolves?' by ribbiks for reference), literally my own recent maps (ignore this if you arent familiar with them). just create something you feel strongly for ;D Favorite (doom) music/midis: something subtle and atmospheric, but just use whatever fits Favorite color: its up to you, mapmaker Map Notes: infighting/ammo management/routing puzzle thing, partly tyson, kinda mean and obtuse, but short. has some cool spiky shapes (you can get stuck in some of them. I'm not changing that, it's funny) inspired by a map we both really like. hope you have fun with it! No difficulty preference (let's say dimensions difficulty is the soft cap). If it's too much, just try to make something interesting. Favorite (doom) music/midis: preference for prog rock midi, but feel free to choose something else Favorite color: The underrated one Map Notes: I would like to watch you so if you are willing to be watched then we can discuss a suitable time. Big nonlinear exploration maps with biting combat. Open ended activate as you like actioney maps like SL18 and TOTG03. Bizarre punishments for taking resources. General resource tightness if it drives interesting strategic approach to a map or rewards projectile avoidance that is usually unimportant in doom maps. 2024 update: Afrits Some of my favorite wads which exhibit some though definitely not all of the things here: No Chance, skepland, Old Still Life Favorite (doom) music/midis: love love love dancey stuff like FL05 midi on imposing combat maps. I think it's by your friend or something? I think you mentioned him once, Drop Dead... something? I don't remember. Says it's from the year 1989 for some reason. - STORY: You, an innocent brainrotted YouTube shorts TikTok aficionado have awoken to find yourself emerging from a pool of water, alone and locked in a cold, damp, dark cave, with no sign of food. It's hazy, but you try to remember what led up to these events. The most recent thing you recall is enjoying some excellent YouTube shorts by the terrific brainrot artist, Max Design Pro and making a post, announcing Gegagedigedagedago is far superior to... some other meme you don't recall the name of. Have you been drugged..? 30 minutes later there was a knock at the door, but you can't remember who was there, and then you woke up here. Now, in the distance, you can vaguely hear singing and laughing, but you can't make out what they're saying. They seem to be speaking a different language? You need to break out of this cave you've been wrongfully imprisoned in, discover the nature of who, or what, dragged you in here, learn the truth of what happened, find and confront their leader, and make your escape back home to Ohio. Think you can do it? Welcome, to 11 Miles Over The Rim. - HAHA!!! IT'S NOT DEAT!!! I HAD YOU *ALL* FOOLED!!! GET DUNKED ON!!! (except Roadworx, good job xdd) Anyway, merry Christmas, Xulgonoth! This was a lot of fun! As far as I'm concerned as a mapper, Meowgi made an excellent choice giving your prompt to me. I ended up making something I find myself secretly wanting to, but rarely ever have or even give myself an opportunity to fully dive into. It was an exciting new challenge for me! Initially I was a little bit confounded looking over all your maps as I found many much more serious maps (Jack Built A Techbase, Gateway To Shangri-La, Sanguine Cybermancy, The Womb Etched Into Time) than I was anticipating, given "ironic memes" is featured in the prompt here, though, then the ideas started to click once I played The Day The Machine Wept, which if you read the story, also influenced the subject matter of the map. (That map has got some diabolical philosophical tricks in there, man. I love it. Seriously. 10/10) Also I replayed Bordello Bill from Junkfood 3, played Callisto Mansion from MAYhem 2022, some maps in the "Titan" series by Jim Flynn, alongside a few of Jim Flynn's Eternal Doom maps, and tried to play Silures and Excalibur from the same wad. I also played bits of industrl.wad and replayed a bit of Citadel At The Edge Of Eternity from Community Chest both by Magikal. Most of my research, though, was on The Day The Machine Wept. I was gonna play Archie, but I figured I had everything I needed to know about the comedy from what I already knew of Skibiditernal and Mock 2 and Archie is its own can of worms anyway. Does not have much in common with 17 Kilometres 'Til Freedoom outside of the name and mapping for a specific complevel. Was playtested on complevel 11 though I'm not deat so the map doesn't completely change if you're on 11 or 21, I didn't have the time/ideas to implement a gimmick with yellow skull keys and doors that need 3 keys or anything specific with infighting I fear. (cl21 is still fully functional I checked @ meowgi). I did not play Mortal Coil as research and this map has nothing in common with Mortal Coil. Contains custom textures (prefixed with "NHT_"), difficulty settings that are implemented exclusively for progression through candles indicating puzzle solutions, and a certain sound replacement that Meowgi can include in the final wad if he feels like it but doesn't need to. Alternate title: "Because That's Normal." I hope this map is fittingly meme-ish and wall hump-y for you sir! Tbh all I really care about with music is it’d be cool if you implemented numerous tracks through MUSINFO, I’d quite like that Favourite colour: Green/blue/ourple (anything is cool tho) Have fun! Maybe it wasn't too obvious from these particular standards but I’m not picky at all and quite easy to please, listen to and ignore whatever you want from this, no need to follow most of this stuff, promise I'll like whatever you make :) Map Notes: :) MAP47 : Salvaged From The Scrapyard Author : Fumingbow639067 Gift for : deat Music : D_RUNNIN from doom2.wad, The Machine by Jesper Kyd in midi, devil smile by dreamer, biomechanoid by groo/the black robes, baal1 by clamydia division, aphex_twin by the celsius, just dreamer's tear by dreamer, The Race of a Thousand Pounds from OFF, DISKPREPT1 by aphex twin, The Meaning of His Tears from OFF, Twinkle Joy from YAMAHA keyboards, Old Times from Gingiva, 2100-Lyrics.S809 from YAMAHA keyboards, Xmas_01 from YAMAHA keyboards Prompt : Favourite genres/tropes: - Stair builder ceiling height crimes - Disabling snap-to-grid - Ill-fitting usage of textures - Resisting the urge to auto-align textures, disabling auto-alignment of textures when splitting lines in UDB (Tools -> Preferences -> Editing -> set When splitting a linedef to Reset X and Y coordinates) - Extremely sporadic usage of upper/lower unpegging and/or nonsense usage of lower unpeg on one-sided walls - Very tall sectors relative to x/y size of room (and also the complete opposite if using monsters that are <=64 height) - Passageways that are long enough to showcase software mode's inaccurate math of flat rendering (if unsure, test in 640x480) - Line action 48 SP_FACE1 - Repeatable voodoo closets - cl0 mapping techniques - DoomCAD version 5.5 Surprise me with what you want to make, I have no preference for gameplay this time around. Let the paintbrush flow. (please avoid gameplay that involves highly twitchy hand movement as my wrist will scream at me, thanks) Favourite music: Any four-channel MOD file Favourite colour: I DON'T CARE IF COLOUR Map Notes: Hi deat, hope this map is bad enough for your tastes. Awful progression, horrible visuals, really just a load of crap. What's more i made this whole map without visual mode! And with snap to grid turned off the entire time! yes. the ENTIRE time, even when working with voodoo dolls. i still had the grid visible, thinking earlier on that perhaps it would help with making 32 map unit closets easier, but not really, so i gave up on alligning them. Oh yes and i can't forget to mention i was in wireframe the whole time so i couldn't see any of the flats. I also only tested in 640x480, as you play in and as you would want it. I also had to make sure that the Rest X and Y coordinates setting was on permanently too, as you would want. I know you said you wanted DoomCAD v5.5 mapping to be done at some point, but i literally couldn't find an archive of it that was still up, they all either had the wrong version or the link was dead or the download just wasn't fucking there, so hopefully this is a good enough compromise. To anyone interested in playing this, don't bother, the map isn't interesting enough, nor fun enough, nor rewarding enough, nor artistically interesting enough. For all i have went through making this deat, you are going to have to play through this without help. Have fun. MAP48 : dreams of a black-eyed outcast, part 1 Author : ako & koko Gift for : Fumingbow639067 Music : I couldn't remember my name, I couldn't remember my life, all I knew was that I was gone forever. - cacola Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes: adventure maps, Tyson gameplay, ssg gameplay, bfg slaughter gameplay, imps, pinkies (especially if used with bfg slaughter; but still very good with berserk and ssg), non excessive archviles, surrealist landscapes; possibly mixing places based off of or designed to feel real with ideas that make no logical sense. doom as art, nomo gameplay or areas with few monsters to let you explore, secrets do not need to actually help at all; preferably the map will be about the same difficulty with or without them, if platforming then not extreme difficulty, try not to cook the map; i'm bad at this fucking game, maps with unique setpieces, something that can evoke emotion, hylics style progression, tbh any inspiration from hylics will be good thank you, contrasting lighting, water, natural mixed with industrial/brutalist/regular human construction/irregular mapper construction (you can choose or mix and match), visual jokes, good use of STARTAN2 (especially used in interesting ways with serious intent), lighting that doesn't make any logical sense, but looks cool, grass and water and stuff, MUSIC CHANGERS :star_struck: Favorite music/midis: ambient, drone, atmospheric, classical, piano, chill, gymnopedie no.1, OGGs are cool, so are MODs, moods, experimental, abstract, interesting use of sounds, emotion/emotional, cool shit idk, non-Minecraft c418 music Favorite color(s): I love brown and and grey, light browns like STARTAN2's shade are cool but all shades of browns are good. and all shades of grey. other colours are good too, idk I like the way stuff like FWATER and SLIME mesh with greys and browns, stuff of those shades are nice and in general those are good liquid textures. If the grey slime liquid textures and flats are included with the resources then I also really like them. Don't add everything, just choose what interests you. Map Notes: first piece of a planned (deranged) adventure map that may never manifest. alt title: metropolis may run terribly because of the slopes use cheats if the map is bad (Note from NiGHTS108: I was later asked to make the less laggy version of this map the main version, original version that "runs terribly because of the slopes" is in MAP99) MAP49 : - Author : raddicted Gift for : ako & koko Music : map01 from pwacp.wad Prompt : fav stuffs: a/ malicious design (either creative or funny), anything involving cleverness or guile on the mapper's behalf. really fucking hard shit (in particular, hard shit you can 'get good at') - but one pet peeve is fights that just kill you straight away if you don't come in with a specific strategy ready (i.e. your fights should require skill and flexibility more than strategy). platforming can be nice too, as long as it's weird or interesting. "something that's never been done before" - i offer no elaboration. do whatever you want with this part. k/ i like fun stuff :> and i play a good variety of wads. if you enjoyed testing it i'll probably enjoy playing it. but this whole 'art' thing tends to work out better when you bake a piece of yourself into what you make. so... i'm here to learn about you. make something about yourself. big or small, known or unknown. be blunt, or be obscure - so long as the words from your heart are pure. fav muzaks: way too much variance to pin down a solid answer. pick whatever works for you. fav pretties: as a light preference, black and blue :D but use whatever's good for you. this prompt - it's far from tame. if you know what we are, then you'll know what to do. if not, let's play a game - it'll seem bizarre - you'll be mapping for two. not just a set of names - i've found my shining stars - their time's long overdue. Map Notes: if you arent a fan of the idea of playing with no music for most of the map, take the attached ogg file and replace D_RUNNIN with it. the ogg is copyrighted afaik so the blank midi will have to do for the idgames build of this wad. to my knowledge there are no bugs and everything is doable. if you have any major gripes/issues with the map, dm me and i will fix them as best i can. merry christmas /// SECRET MAPS /// MAP51 : when life was cold and love was weird Author : NiGHTS108 Gift for : Maribo Music : apex2.mod Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes/enemies: Mapping from the heart. Favorite color: deep purples, deep greens, black, dark greys, blood red, deep blues. Map Notes: Merry Christmas Maribo! To show my appreciation to you and because I just like ICGYA that much, I made you a map! Pretty short, contains HOMs, the colour purple, the colour blue, the BFG, invulns and funny shapes. Took the name from something on the internet that I like. No need to include in final wad if you don't want to @ meowgi, I have a few other things I could use this map for. I hope you like it! Load with latest resource MAP52 : Disproportionations Author : Ravendesk + NiGHTS108 + El Inferno + ivymagnapinna + Cynder_Thief Gift for : Meowgi Music : "discharg" by xtd Prompt : Favorite genres/tropes/enemies: Slaughter, revenant hallways, rocketing imps. Oh yeah, cook that shit up especially if its short. I like difficulty as long as its reasonable (not totally RNG). Favorite (doom) music/midis: earblasting tracker mods, retro video game midis, specifically Donkey Kong Country/64, Kirby, Runescape MIDIs, etc. Favorite color: Green and black go well together :D Map Notes: [NiGHTS108] Merry Christmas, Meowgi! Ravendesk was mainly in charge of this map, though I guess I'm writing the notes. Few days ago he came to me asking if I had a map for Meowgi, I said I didn't, he proposed we collab, then he had the idea to assemble a fairly ragtag group of mappers to make individual parts. Raven made the central area, me, Ivy and El Inferno made the yellow, red and blue key fights and Cynder_Thief made the end.
